From Wikipedia: w3cSynchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) is a World Wide Web Consortium recommended Extensible Markup Language (XML) markup language to describe multimedia presentations.

Klaus also participated in the definition of SMIL, the recommendation 1.0 was released by W3C in April 1998.
